D-Tech’s library app provides seamless, one-step checkout
D-Tech International’s newest offering pairs smartphone technology with a one-of-a-kind app designed exclusively for mobile devices.
The innovative appIT™ library app uses technology already embedded in today’s standard smartphones to read and switch off RFID tags, allowing patrons to scan and check out books in one seamless operation.
Designed and developed for use in the library community, appIT™ is a first for libraries and the only app on the market utilizing RFID technology to perform many functions that would have previously been done at the circulation desk.
With appIT™’s state-of-the-art functions, users can scan, checkout and simply leave the library with their materials. This eliminates the need to have RFID tags turned off at another location prior to exiting the building.
Other features include the ability to access accounts, submit payments and request renewals. Patrons can also view library hours and locations or chat one-on-one with a librarian.
Libraries using appIT™ realize savings by minimizing the need for more checkout kiosks and related ongoing maintenance costs. In addition, the technology frees staff to focus more on patron assistance rather than routine administrative tasks, which can now be handled by the app.
appIT™ can also be used to engage and communicate with patrons through advertising space and patron messaging.
“It is part of our mission to have a keen eye on innovation with the purpose of keeping the library as a relevant hub for interaction for the communities they serve. The library of today can no longer be restrained by physical walls. We designed and developed the app so libraries can extend their services beyond the library environment and allow patrons to access the services they need when it matters in a secure online environment, appIT™, has only just started and we have many more ideas that will be added over the next few months.”
App use is growing at 119% a year.
