In a year dominated by the coronavirus pandemic, delivering library technology services has been a challenge a long way down the list of national priorities and a long way from the minds of the public consciousness, but a challenge nonetheless.
Originally affecting UK and US businesses by causing major disruption to the supply chain, the COVID-19 outbreak is now causing major disruption the day-to-day lives of us all.
Following the US and UK lockdown all libraries have been forced to close their doors for the foreseeable future. It is no doubt a difficult time so, amongst the uncertainty, we wanted to focus on some of the good things that have happened in 2020.
47 Library Roll-Out Underway in Norfolk
We’ve seen the first of 95 Norfolk-bound serveIT units installed in Plumstead Road Library and, we hope you agree, they look fantastic. It is always exciting for everyone at D-Tech to our high-powered technology solutions installed and ready to deliver for library users, but it’s fair to say that installing the serveIT’s sleek blue and white design into the first Norfolk library gave some of our Ipswich Town FC supporting engineers an additional buzz.
24/7 Access for US and Canada Library Users
2020 has seen new lendIT units installed in Hillsboro, Oregon and Baruch College, New York, giving users 24/7 access to library materials.
24/7 access for holds pickup at Jefferson County, Arizona State University Library, University of Manitoba in Canada, Stark Library and so on. Our external HoldIT solution, giving safe access to materials for patrons over the lock down period. This allows libraries to continue proving a service in these uncertain times.

Coventry University
D-Tech has loved working with the award-winning Lanchester Library at Coventry University delivering faster, more secure access to laptops, tablets and other devices thanks to computeIT. Kirsty Kift, Assistant Director (Customer Experience and Service Innovation), Lanchester Library said, “our students like the convenience of borrowing laptops. Many of our students travel long distances to the university, so it is ideal for them. It means they don’t have to carry their own laptop around or worry about security. Loaning laptops through self-service cabinets supports our 24-hour opening and facilitates a better use of staff resources.”
After such positive feedback, we’re delighted to improve our services at the university even further with additional computeIT capabilities.
